Board of Directors
Dr. Nancy Iverson, Founder and Director
Nancy Iverson, PATHSTAR director, is a pediatrician who puts her ideas into action for the benefit of children and families in her work in San Francisco, the Bay Area, and at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. With honors including a 2001 proclamation of “Dr. Nancy Iverson Day in San Francisco,” and a 2005 Certificate of Award ‘for valuable contributions to the promotion of good health and awareness to the Oglala Lakota people’ (Oglala Sioux Tribe, Lakota Nations Wellness Team), recognition for “Outstanding Contributions to Children and Families (USF Center for Child and Family Development), designation as the 2004 Honoree for Support for Families of Children with Disabilities, and a Certificate of Honor for Outstanding Service (SF Board of Supervisors), she brings to PATHSTAR, the nonprofit she founded in 2000, more than twenty years of experience in clinical pediatrics and medical education along with her background with the Indian Health Service at Pine Ridge Reservation in her native state of South Dakota. Her practice of medicine, dedicated to developing and nurturing family and community integrity, compassion and caring emphasizes individual and collective health, education, and support.
Fred Crisp
Fred Crisp, PATHSTAR supporter and board member since 2003, was instrumental in helping to develop and implement the PATHSTAR Alcatraz programs. A member of the South End Rowing Club since 2002, he accompanied Armando Black Bear on his Alcatraz crossing as part of the first PATHSTAR Alcatraz Swim program, and he has served in many capacities with PATHSTAR since.
In addition to his work in San Francisco, he has traveled to Pine Ridge in South Dakota multiple times for PATHSTAR programs.
Katrina Krimsky
Although Katrina Krimsky’s professional background as a pianist and composer may seem disparate with PATHSTAR goals, Katrina models a strong link. She tracks her connection to swimming and her musical career back to her youth. As a child she spent summers at a lake in Virginia where in addition to many hours of piano practice, she was escorted by her teacher and mother in a row boat as she swam the length of the lake. In addition to being a total body exercise, swimming was also a discipline, strengthening and enhancing her piano playing and practice principles.
Katrina notes that “PATHSTAR’s vision, hard work, and devotion to swimming for health and happiness is admirable and should be supported. It is an honor to be on the board of this very special organization.”
Claire Donaldson
Claire lives in Oakland where she teaches swimming at Mills College. She has been a Masters Swim Coach for over 15 years and enjoys teaching others to swim. With her ‘take charge’ style infused with practicality and enthusiasm, she is a natural to accompany the entire PATHSTAR team in meeting challenges–from the slew of organizational tasks to the mighty experience of swimming in the Bay.
Randy Brown
Blessed with growing up in the waters of Hawaii, Randy has been dedicated to passing on the gift of being at home in the water by coaching and teaching swimming since 1964. Since first volunteering with PATHSTAR in 2010, Randy’s perspective regarding PATHSTAR has been consistent:
“The opportunity of being a swim angel as a volunteer in the PATHSTAR program has been a great joy to me. Recruiting volunteers as swim angels from the South End Rowing Club has been a privilege for me. I hope to continue instilling confidence in the PATHSTAR participants as a part of our efforts to improve their lives.”
